Material Recycling Facility (MRF)

In line with our commitment to deliver our services in an environmentally sustainable manner, we opened our MRF at Silverwater in March 2009, with our focus being on resource recovery.

Our MRF receives and processes the following waste streams;
  • General Waste Collections - We are successfully processing general waste and recovering recyclable material that would previously have gone to landfill!
  • Paper & Cardboard Recycling – We are sorting and baling mixed paper and cardboard to be reused - the baled product is sold locally and on the export market for the manufacture of new paper products and cardboard packaging.
What materials are recovered at the MRF?

Our MRF processes and recovers the following resources to be reused;
  • Paper & cardboard - the baled product is sold locally and on the export market for the manufacture of new paper products and cardboard packaging.
  • Plastic bags/film.
  • Plastic bottles (mixed grades.)
  • Aluminium cans.
  • Steel.
  • Glass bottles.
  • Food & organic waste – the material is transferred to a local composting facility for processing.
Previously, most of this material would have ended up in landfill!
